how the uniformed public services can be involved in outdoor activities.?

Outside of their work, the same as the rest of us – get an interest and go for it.

For example, I enjoy walking and anyone can do that – get a map, some kit and off you go. As you get experience then you progress to harder and longer walks, perhaps a bit of rock scramblinbg as well. Same with say climbing, go on a course, learn the basics, practice and go for it.

In work, there are lots of training that can be provided with parallels to outdoor activities. For example, the fire brigade learn about working on ropes and abseiling – now just move from the training tower to a cliff face and its an outdoor activity. Look at the training you can get and there are things you can do.

Also the uniformed public services encourage that type of thing.

Then there are groups of enthusiasts within the service (and many large companies) – there might be a local hill walking group, or climbing group.

Their work can be very similar to outdoor activities and to practice and train would encompass what most people call an outdoor activity. Having said that, it looses its ploeasure a little when you are trying to save someones life as opposed to going out for fun.
