Need help with rose garden health care!?
December 282009
I have recently planted six different rose bushes in my backyard garden and they did great at first but now disaster has struck! These shiny green beetles have been eating and mating all over my poor roses. Also one bush started losing branches to a possibly fungal disease. Could you please recommend pesticides/fungicides to cure my rose garden?
My advise is whatever you do Don’t by Beetle Traps! It will do the opposite of what you want and draw more beetles to your yard. I think it was just someones idea to make some money.
I would go to your local garden center and ask for a systemic insecticide. It usually comes in granule form and you spread it out around your plants root system and water it in. Your plant will absorb the insecticide and distribute it throughout the plant. When a bug tries to bite it, it will kill it. It can take up to two weeks to start working but it will last for at least 4 months. In the meantime I would spray a topical insecticide to kill the ones that are there now.
If you are growing roses you should be on a schedule of at least every 14 days to spray your roses for fungal disease. Black Spot being the most prevalent. I would cut out the bad parts of the branches, rake any fallen leaves from underneath them and get them sprayed.

Bayer makes an all in one rose care, fertilizer, insecticide and disease control. It is an excellent product, you just mix it in a watering can and pour it around the base of the rose.
