is putting information from a book on my website against copyright laws?

I’m wanting to make a "home imporvment" website with tips on decorating, home, garden, health, crafts–that sort of stuff. Would it be against copyright laws if I put stuff I got from books on my website? Would it matter if I didn’t write it "word for word"? I was also thinking I would put on my website the reference of the book that way whoever is reading it will know I didn’t make anything up. Please give me an idea of what to do if it is against the law.

If this is going to be real website, I seriously suggest you talk to legal counsel. Unfortunately, most of the answers on here are very wrong.

Generally speaking, copying or even adapting another’s copyrighted work is copyright infringement. It doesn’t matter whether you cite sources or whether you make no money from it.

Plagiarism and copyright infringement are two separate things. Most importantly, copyright infringement is based on statutory law (Title 17 of the US Code). So you have specific rules you must follow.

There is also no general guideline to avoid copyright infringement. Much of it is determined on a case-by-case basis.

My neighbours dog keeps fouling in the shared garden?

We have asked them now 3 times to get the dog to stop and actually take the dog for a walk like normal people and they say ‘yes no problem’ but they just keep letting the dog do it. What makes it worse is another dog from 2 houses away joins that dog in fouling in our garden. They don’t even clean it up!

I am at my wits end and really do not want to call in environmental health in case things turn nasty. Any sensible suggestions are welcome.

I as a dog own hat when people leave the poo in my yard . Shouldn’t happen. But yes calling someone is very drastic measures. Sence you have already told them a few times and they have chose Not to listen. Go out and pick it up and put it on there porch – and it may take a few times before they get it but trust me they will.
I have done this to my neighbor. And now they understand.
Its not mean but you are showing them you dont like it where they leave theres now they wont like where you leave yours

I hate salads…Ive never liked them….THeyve always seemed plain and dull with no flavor….And Dressing is usually nasty…..Well recently i went to Olive Garden and decided to try the salad…..I LOVED IT…..but i forgot to ask what kind of dressing they use or how do they make it…Well, if someone knows…PLEASE let me know…Thank you…

Michelle Obama tried to grow a vegetable garden, but found there had been sewage sludge used as fertilizer during the Clinton Administration. The National Parks Service tested the sludge and found lead in it.

The same kind of sewage sludge is used extensively as agricultural fertilizer. A lot of people protest this, including neighbors due to the run-off. Why haven’t the scientists and administrators of the EPA and HHS determined that this is not healthy and prohibited the practice.

Instead, we see people and communities engaged in court battles to stop the practice, and local Departments of Environmental Protection and state politicians supporting the polluters.

How much more will using sewage sludge on food increase U.S. morbidity and the cost of health care?

Whether the Obama’s learned anything or not and the EPA and HHS aside:

Where is the Food and Drug Administration?

Although this may be an environmental problem, why isn’t the Food and Drug Administration protecting us and our children from this potentially destructive lead laced food?

Lead in the diet of an infant or young child can be extremely destructive to the child’s brain development.

Never forget that home grown vegetables are better for you and are more nutritious and with the coming collapse of the economy…you should know how to grow your own.

Big multinational agribusiness (Archer Daniels Midland, Monsanto, Cargill (twice the size of ADM) and others) has a huge lobbying effort to keep their activities hidden and approved by our POLITICIANS!

Growing your own food can help people is all parts of the world, including urban areas. Urban food gardening will reduce the need to import food from rural areas which will make the food that is grown in the city cheaper to produce and buy. It is also less likley to have pesticides on it or be geneticly modified since it is done on a small scale which will help with health concerns.

My neighbour has buried an old fridge and a freezer containing freon in the garden. Is this a problem?

I live down hill from my neighbour and they recently buried a fridge and a freezer in their garden. I presume this is because they didnt want to pay for it to be collected.
I do not want to speak to them about it as I will get the council to contact them and I wouldnt want them to know it was me who told them.

Could the freon gasses effect my garden or health?

The amount of refrigerant in a standard household refrigerator is quite low and, unless inhaled directly, will cause you no damage.
