what is a good family health insurance plan?

I am looking for affordable health Insurance for my family. 2 adults and 3 children. My husbands job moves alot so we need something that has national coverage and we are not interested in the health care discount plans. we are looking for a heath Insurance plan with low dr visit copay’s and a prescription drug plan. If any one knows of one pls leave me the information. Right now we are in Texas and we have a home address in Tennessee. Thanks

If you are a permanent resident in TN you will need a policy from TN. If you move around a lot the best policy would be an indemnity, which is a policy that will allow you to select any doctor anywhere. However, indemnity plans cost much more than network plans so they may not fall into your definition of "affordable". Also, fewer companies offer these plans.

Your second choice would be a PPO, which allows you to go outside of the network. Your costs will be higher outside of the network and most plans have a separate out of network deductible so, although the premium would be lower than an indemnity, using the policy may not be "affordable". You may or may not be able to use the network in different states, depending on the state and the plan.

You’ll need to talk with a local TN agent that works with all the major companies to find the plan that’s best for you. If you know the states you may move to the agent can find out how each plan would work in each state. There is no extra charge using an agent. If you talk with a TX agent they may or may not be licensed in TN.

Do you know of any good family health insurance plans for cheap?

I currently work in a hopital and pay only $200/month for insurance. I am pregnant with my 2nd child and thinking of cutting my hours at work to where I could no longer carry their insurance plan. We also own a small business, so my husband doesn’t carry the insurance. I only have to work 20 hours a week to keep the insurance at my job, and it has awesome benifits, but I would love to be home after the 2nd baby is born. What do you think? Should I keep my insurance at work or any better ideas?

Become an illegal alien. Californian liberal politicians got counties to advertise in Spanish that there is free healthcare available. However, it is not free if you are a citizen. Citizens are expected to pay for all hospital bills and doctor’s visits.

California county politicians even wanted to raise taxes to pay for illegal aliens’ use of hospitals. That idea was rejected by voters.

Should companies be allowed to use your family health records to determine your coverage and rates?

I was reading recently that insurance companies are now using family history to calculate rates and even deny coverage where they can perceive a loss or bad investment. I believe most corporate employees are protected from such scrutiny and must be allowed to join group policies except where pre-existing conditions allow the insurance company to opt out. But, self-employed or employees of say a small private school may not he able to obtain reasonably priced coverage because their Mom’s dad had a heart attack, colon cancer, etc…

That is called underwriting, and is done. It is a good determination of future costs. I would assume the option would be to charge everyone the higher rates, so they are covered for the ones with health issues.

Of course merley tell them you are adopted and have no family history.

There are many chronic ailments that run in families…high blood pressure, high cholesterol, for instance….and many diseases…diabetes, cancer, heart problems…that can be made manageable by knowing beforehand that there is a great risk of them appearing in you.
For instance, your grandfather had diabetes, and your father was diagnosed with it in his early 40’s….by knowing that there is a history of it in your family, you can look for the early symptoms, be aware of them, and add years to your life by taking steps to get tested and treated early.
